Air quality in Lhasa remains excellent
update:December 26,2016
Dec. 26, 2016 -- While several cities in China suffer heavy smog, people in Lhasa enjoy bright sunshine and blue sky. Since 2000, the air quality in Lhasa has maintained an excellent rate of 95.73 percent.
Lhasa ranked fifth in air quality among 74 major cities nationwide in 2015 and was one of the top ten cities with the best air quality in the first ten months of 2016.
The local government has taken multiple measures to ensure good air quality.
“Projects of ‘three high’ (namely high pollution, high energy consumption and high emission) are prohibited in Lhasa, which leads to fewer industrial emissions of pollutants,” said Zhang Tianhua, deputy director-general of Tibetan Department of Environmental Protection.
Environmental laws together with an environmental protection assessment system and special incentive funds have promoted the wide use of clean energy.
