Aug. 24, 2016 -- China has achieved remarkable progress in poverty alleviation, according to a report released by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Monday.

The China National Human Development Report 2016 attributes China’s achievements to a number of effective measures, including multidimensional poverty reduction and targeted poverty alleviation.

The Chinese government has changed the way of reducing poverty from blood-transfusion to blood-making in consideration of the vast territory, complex national conditions, low level of economic development and the large number of poor people.

To improve the participation opportunity and ability for the poor is not only a valuable experience, but also the only way to eradicate poverty.

Blood-making means developing industries with local characteristics. Underdeveloped regions in west China have harvested great economic benefits and inspired enthusiasm, creativity and participation ability of the poor by actively developing advantageous industries.

The report describes in detail Tibet’s huge achievements in poverty alleviation through the development of aquaculture.

Thanks to the abundant water resources, Tibet has established the natural drinking water industry as a key support project. The local government has set up a leading group, issued a series of documents and made clear the improvement target.

The rapid development of aquaculture in Tibet has significantly improved the local economy and people’s quality of life, and changed local residents’ mindset and life styles.

Meanwhile, enterprises introduced to Tibet are providing strong support for the elementary education, health care, employment and other aspects.
